Mila Paz

Our sweet daughter Mila Paz (Peace in Spanish) entered our lives on January 6, 2015 during one of the only snows we had all winter, and she came home on the coldest day of the year. My pregnancy with Ms. Mila was a pretty big surprise, and very different than Luca's. In the fall of 2013 we had discussed having another baby, and I knew that I would need to be off of birth control for several months before trying. We stopped preventing pregnancy, but had no plans of actually trying for another baby until the following spring or summer. During that time we started having serious conversations about moving back to Indiana. Once we decided we were actually going to try to move, we also decided it would be best to hold off on trying for another baby until we had moved and were settled in Indiana. So...fast forward to May 2014. Our house was on the market, we were just a few short weeks away from making the big move, I was wrapping up my last school year in Phoenix, and boxes were being packed. My grandma Thelma was also not in good health at the time. On May 6th I was shocked with a positive pregnancy test, the following morning my mom called to tell me that Grandma Thelma had passed away. Talk about a range of emotions!!! It's a wonder I got through those first months of pregnancy with everything on my plate. Despite the fact that our pregnancy with Mila was very much a surprise, we were thrilled and excited...and very nervous about how things were all going to fall into place in the midst of this big move. I also like to think maybe my Grandma Thelma had a little something to do with it. My Grandma's middle name was Irene, which is actually the Godess of peace. Using Paz as Mila's middle name seemed like a fitting way to honor my Grandma Thelma. Mila means "the people's love". I hope that Mila brings love and peace to others wherever she goes.
